For years, building a website and ranking on search engines was enough to grow an online business. Publish content, and get traffic.

But right now, that’s no longer the full picture.

Today, algorithms change overnight, AI answers replace search results, and relying only on traffic you don’t control is very risky. If you’re not building your own audience. One you can reach anytime, you’re leaving your business exposed to chance.

This is where email marketing becomes non-negotiable.

And one of the first tools most people turn to is Mailchimp.

So in this review, I’ll show you exactly what it does well, where it falls short, and whether it’s still worth using today.

It started as a simple newsletter tool, but today it’s much bigger than that.

With Mailchimp, you can:

  • Create email campaigns and newsletters
  • Set up automation workflows
  • Design landing pages
  • Run basic ads and CRM tasks

It’s positioned as a beginner-friendly platform. But with enough depth for growing businesses to utilize very well.

Getting Started: Free Plan & Pricing

One of the reasons Mailchimp became so popular is its free plan to draw you in.

Here’s how it’s structured:

  • Free Plan is great for beginners testing email marketing
  • Essentials Plan has more templates, A/B testing, and better support
  • Standard Plan contains advanced automation and segmentation
  • Premium Plan is built for larger businesses and teams

The free plan is decent, but let me be honest with you on this. Most serious users will outgrow it quickly. I can assure you that. Once your list grows, you’ll need to upgrade very fast.

The Dashboard: Simple, Clean, and Beginner-Friendly

Mailchimp’s dashboard is one of its biggest strengths.

When you log in, everything is clearly laid out:

  • Audience overview
  • Campaign performance
  • Recent activity
  • Recommendations

It doesn’t overwhelm you with data like some advanced tools do. Instead, it guides you step-by-step, which makes it perfect if you’re just starting out as a beginner.

Email Campaigns: Where Mailchimp Shines

This is where Mailchimp really delivers very well.

Creating an email campaign is straightforward:

  1. Choose a template
  2. Customize with drag-and-drop blocks
  3. Add your content
  4. Hit send

You don’t need design skills to create something professional for your business.

The templates are clean, modern, and mobile-friendly. Which matters a lot today.

You will also get:

  • Personalization (use subscriber names, etc.)
  • Scheduling options
  • Basic A/B testing (on paid plans)

Automation: Very Good, But Still Not the Best

Mailchimp offers automation workflows, and they work well for most basic needs.

You can set up:

  • Welcome email sequences
  • Abandoned cart emails
  • Follow-ups based on user behavior

However, if I’m being honest from my experience. This is where Mailchimp starts to show its limits.

Compared to more advanced platforms. The automation builder isn’t as flexible or powerful. It’s good, just not industry-leading when it comes to this.

Audience Management & Segmentation

Mailchimp allows you to organize your subscribers and segment them based on behavior.

You can create groups like:

  • New subscribers
  • Repeat customers
  • Engaged vs inactive users

This helps you send more targeted emails, which improves open and conversions rates.

That been said, advanced segmentation features are locked behind much higher-tier plans.

Analytics: Easy to Understand

Mailchimp keeps analytics simple and useful.

You’ll see:

  • Open rates
  • Click rates
  • Unsubscribes
  • Campaign performance over time

It’s not overly technical, which I actually like. You get just enough data to improve without getting lost in numbers.

Landing Pages & Extra Features

Mailchimp also includes:

  • Landing page builder
  • Basic CRM features
  • Social media ads integration

These are nice additions, but they’re not the main reason to use the platform.

Think of them as “bonus tools” rather than Mailchimp core strengths.

Who Is Mailchimp For?

Mailchimp is ideal for:

  • Beginners starting email marketing
  • Bloggers building an audience
  • Small business owners
  • Creators who want a simple, reliable tool

If you’re running complex funnels or advanced automation, you might eventually need something more powerful than Mailchimp.

My Mailchimp Review Summary

Mailchimp is still one of the easiest ways to get started with email marketing in 2026.

It’s not the most advanced tool out there anymore, but that’s not really the point.

It’s simple. It works. And it helps you build something that matters. It builds a direct connection with your audience.

If you’re just starting out, it’s a solid choice to be honest.

If you’re scaling fast, you may outgrow it  and that’s totally okay.
